Hillsborough is located just north of Silicon Valley and is considered to be among the wealthiest communities in the United States.  It is ranked #11 on the Forbes "Most Expensive Zip Codes" survey for 2017 and it has the highest income of places in the U.S. with populations of at least 10,000.

Hillsborough is the home to many chief executives, sports figures, venture capitalists, and investors.

The Peninsula is only 30 minutes from San Francisco and about 2 hours from Napa Valley and Pebble Beach.  Many of our residents enjoy the summer and winter activities in Lake Tahoe, which is only 4 hours away.  Hillsborough is conveniently located near San Francisco International Airport and private jet centers.

The town has no commercial zoning and thus no businesses within the town limits; the only non-residential properties are the town's 4 public and 3 private schools, town and county government facilities, a golf course, and a small park.

Hillsborough's landscape is dominated by large homes; the town zoning and subdivision ordinances require a 2,500-square-foot minimum house size and a minimum lot size of 0.5 acre.  As a result, there are no apartments, condominiums, or townhouses within the city limits.  The town is served by highly regarded Hillsborough City School District.
