- Count Christian de Guigné, born of French nobility, came to California in 1879 and soon married Mary Katherine Parrott, daughter of a gold rush pioneer with a fortune in banking, landholdings, mining, and ranching; Count de Guigné later started Stauffer Chemical Company and Leslie Salt
- Count de Guigné and Mary Katherine had one son, Christian de Guigné II
- Guignécourt was built for Christian de Guigné II and his wife Marie Christine Elkins; some reports are that it was a wedding present from his father, Count de Guigné (d. 1944)
- Christian and Marie Christine had one child, Christian de Guigné III
- Christian de Guigné III moved into Guignécourt in his early 20s
